Never Too Small

Has your attention ever been caught by clouds? Something about clouds grabs my attention and sparks my imagination. One day recently, when the sky was brilliantly blue, my eyes were fixed on these tall, gorgeous cumulus clouds parked like a tower in front of me. I had to take the picture below. I felt so, so small to the point it was overwhelming. Yet I was comforted rather than afraid. That may seem odd to you. Let me explain.

On this particular day when I saw this tower of clouds, I was reminded of just how big our God is, bigger than anything. Knowing our Lord created you and me, created these clouds, created this entire world, performs miracles, knows everything and is everywhere at the same time feels huge to me. Yet I’m just a tiny speck in this world and in this moment in time. Sure, there are life happenings probably big enough to deserve God’s attention. The birth of a child? Huge. Totaling your car? That’s a biggie too. Okay but what about smaller issues such as which car should you buy or should you say yes to that request to help? Do we go to God in prayer for little things like that? Do they warrant His attention?

Yes, God wants to be a part of it all, big or small. How do I know that? Well, Jesus told us himself. “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:6-7 NIV) See? He still cares for the small. He cares for you and he cares for me. Jesus wants to do life with us, to be a part of our everyday lives. If it matters to us it matters to Him. Too many times I forget that I am so well cared for and loved immensely by a big, big God. So, on this day when I saw these clouds, a smile spread across my face, I took a deep breath and thanked the Lord that I was small and He was big.
